We have started a petition on Westwood Heath Road due to concern about the 40mph limit between the University and the Network Rail College. The worry is that this section of Westwood Heath Road has a 40 mph limit but at each end the limit is 30mph. This suited the road before houses were built in this section. However there are now 18 to 20 families whose drives back onto this section of the road.
Given the speed of lorries and cars hurtling down this road, and therefore the risk to the children that play nearby, or the increased volume of pedestrians that walk to and fro along the pavements, not to mention the difficulties the adjoining Cul-de-sac's or roads have when trying to join the main highway. We are asking residents to sign this petition to ask that it be reduced to 30 mph. This seams sensible as it also ensures the area complies with the Highway code 30mph limit for built up areas.
We will of course also be looking at the enforcement that would be needed should this go ahead. If the official speed restriction of 30 mph were to be imposed, then it would certainly be necessary to ensure regulatory enforcement procedures were to be in place to ensure the restriction was effective.
