Opposition to the imposition of a (PR of W) over the private rear gardens land of residents in Ten Shilling Drive

We the undersigned wish to register our opposition to the imposition of a Public Right of Way (PR of W) over the private gardens of Ten Shilling Drive (TSD) residents. A reasonable person can see that it is not required as there is a publicly maintained, well lit, safe and accessible route running parallel to the inconclusively proposed PR of W, some 10 metres away, which is known to us all as TSD.

Some 15 years after residents purchased their properties, and after the Ramblers Association requested Coventry City Council to designate a PR of W from Westwood Heath Road to the meadows and ancient woodlands off Guinea Crescent, the Council is now consulting upon whether it should create a PR of W OVER THE PRIVATE REAR GARDENS LAND OF RESIDENTS LIVING IN TEN SHILLING DRIVE.

We all enjoy the wonderful environment of Westwood Heath and want to share it as a community. However, opening a rural path leading to the woodland that will undoubtedly lead to an increase of anti-social behaviour, burglaries and other high-risk crimes. To put things into perspective, one of the properties impacted by the PR of W proposal was recently subject to an extremely violent robbery and is still under investigation by the police. There is a public safety concern having a path opening right at the doorstep of the E.ON site access as it will cause a blind spot for the hundreds of vehicles that enter/leave the business park via the TSD access road. Therefore, with children riding bikes, a given blind spot and vehicles leaving E.ON at pace, one can see this proposal is a recipe for a fatal incident.

By signing this community petition, you are asking the Council to abandon their proposals for this unnecessary, expensive and possibly dangerous route across private gardens when a perfectly suitable access route into the meadow and woods already exists 10 meters away.
