Several years ago double yellow lines were installed by the council in Gregory Avenue - there was no consultation with residents and no explanation was offered. Since that point despite several complaints about the safety and efficacy of this arrangements, other than a statement that 'we can't afford to remove them' the lines have succeeded only in providing revenue for the council - at the expense of residents. Consultation with the police has suggested that they recognise that the restrictions offer no benefit to anyone (except the council's revenue generation) since they force people dropping off children to the local school into the narrow, congested and over-used cul-de-sac. During the peak school run period 9am and 3:15pm the road is snarled up and there have been several 'near misses' involving children, because of parents preoccupation with getting as close as possible to the school gates. There have also been numerous incidents of damage to property and residents vehicles because the road is clearly unsuitable for the volume of traffic FORCED to use it by the parking restrictions. The restrictions need to be removed OR the gate to Styvechale School in Gregory Avenue (which was originally the back gate to the site - not for use of the children) needs to be taken 'out of use'.
